January

Food Glorious Food Pt 2

Through the week, when not on weddings duty, I shoot some editorial and commercial photography. One of my clients is a large brewery chain, and have recently shot some new images for their menus and websites. Though I cannot mention the clients' name, if you're ever in a quality country pub and you see some shots like this on the menu or website...remember - you saw them here first ;-)

These images have been cropped slightly - the originals have a little more space around the edge of frame to allow for graphics or text. For the photographers out there, I used two Elinchrom heads with 100cm softboxes, plus a 150W DEDO lamp on a dimmer for the background. Camera was a Nikon D700 with 60mm and 105mm macro lenses.

...and yes - once photographed, we could pick and eat anything we wanted. I of course, refrained (yeah - and if you believe that...)

January Weddings

SOPHIE & GARY AT CREWE HALL, CHESHIRE

The first wedding of 2011 saw me at Crewe Hall for Sophie & Gary's wedding. For anyone getting married, Crewe Hall is a beautiful venue with lots of character and charm. For the photographers, the dark panelled walls and sparse lighting sorts the men from the boys! The venue is dark, very dark, but oh so atmospheric. You need an early night before shooting a wedding here, ;-)

These are some of my favourite images from the day...

As the weather broke, we literally had 30 mins to shoot a few formals like these - all undirected I may add, plus the usual family group shots. A 70-200mm zoom was called for to help speed the process up...

Personal work

My New Year's resolution was to show more personal work alongside the wedding images, so here's some for January. Taken with my baby Nikon P7000 I went back home to Morecambe for an afternoon. The day was glorious, as was my shoulder, with no heavy kit to lug around! It was really therapeutic being out and about with no phone calls or email hassles to worry about...

I treat these images more as ideas, a sort of digital sketchbook, but I hope you like them anyway.

Happy New Year!

Just to wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2011!

Favourite wedding image of 2010.

This year, choosing my favourite image of 2010 was easier than last. And it was taken in October. For me, it has to be this image of Jacq & Rich. An unposed shot, taken in Castlefield Manchester on a glorious sunny October Saturday. I think this marks the start of a slight change in style for my wedding images from now on, and I hope to create more like this for all my clients in 2011. I just love the movement in the dress, the synchronised feet combined with slight motion blur, plus the stunning light. Just a perfect wedding image for me this one.

Santa's been...

I'm off to a nice start already. Santa brought me the new Nikon P7000 digital camera for Christmas. Now, when I have the spare time I can shoot all my own stuff, without the hassle of carrying lots of gear. I've already worked on several new film looks for the images, and can't wait to get going. So I aim to put more personal work online this year, ;-D

Models required...

Hi everybody,

I'm being asked more and more about shooting portraits - family, model, couples, but in my natural wedding photography style. Non of this high contrast, shot against stark white approach though - this will be natural, stylish work.

So, to get things going a little faster - I'm looking for models for January & February (maybe March too?) - singles, couples, families - you name it. If you're a budding model needing some test shots for their book, (NO nude or glamour, sorry!) have a new baby, just got engaged....whatever! If anybody's interested, please get in touch and we can organise a free photoshoot at your home or location. In return you'll get a collection of lovely prints of your choice to frame and keep.

As I say - I'm looking to update my folio, so why not get involved free of charge. Ideally the offer is open to the first dozen or so bona fide replies within a 20 mile radius of Manchester....but come on - twist my arm...

Go on....you know you want to!

Please email any enquiries in the first instance.

Cheers,

Mick
